curriculum vitae

Sarah Fellner was born and raised in Vienna, Austria in 1984. She has lived in Los Angeles, California and Miami, Florida. She has studied Corporate Communications and worked in the advertisement, PR and Marketing industry, before she started her career and studies as a sociologist.

Concering her artistic journey, she began to experiment with photography at an early age, first analog then digital.

She has always had an aesthetic eye, which she developed further within the advertisement and marketing industry. Besides, her mother, a painter, has taught her not only basic techniques that she can use in her way of art, but also a sense of capturing the right moments.

Within her sociological studies she started to implement photography again, but in another way. Not capturing staged situations, but rather pure and authentic moments, that offer a glimpse at people and their behaviour in specific situations as well as artefacts that were constructed by society. She has a minimalistic approach concerning the subject as well as colors.  In her pictures the seemingly inconspicuous is brought to the foreground.

Sarah has found inspiration in the works of Troy Holden, Martin Parr, Bruce Gilden, Peter Kool and Vladimir Milivojevich aka Boogie in the way to do street photography,  but also in the movies of the Austrian director Ulrich Seidl, who portraits society in a very special way.
